The heart consists of interconnected networks of cardiac muscle cells, blood vessels and nerves. Novel imaging methods developed at the ABI are being used to visualise these 3D networks in the human heart.
This image shows the arrangement of cardiac muscle cells within the wall of the left ventricle. Groups of muscle cells are coloured yellow, individual muscle cells are red, and the green parts are blood vessels, connective tissue and fat cells.
This project was supported by a grant from the Leducq Foundation.
